Pantry essentials

While I love to do a weekly shop for fresh fruits and veggies, I find it useful to keep my pantry, fridge, and freezer stocked with a number of items to make life easier ( I buy in bulk whenever there’s a sale.)

Here are some items that’ll make your pantry a cook’s dream:

Legumes

  1. Chickpeas
  2. Red kidney beans
  3. Black beans
  4. Refried beans
  5. Cannellini beans
  6. Lentils (red, green)
  7. Firm tofu
  8. Soft tofu
  9. Raw peanuts (yes this is a legume. Who knew?!)

Nuts and seeds

  1. Almonds
  2. Walnuts
  3. Cashews
  4. Pecans
  5. Pinenuts
  6. Sunflower seeds
  7. Chia seeds
  8. Flaxseeds (great when ground up and used as flax eggs)

Dairy-free milks

  1. Unsweetened almond milk
  2. Coconut milk
  3. Coconut cream
  4. Soy milk

Flours and thickeners

  1. Plain white flour
  2. Whole wheat flour
  3. Coconut flour
  4. Spelt flour
  5. Buckwheat flour
  6. Almond flour
  7. Cornmeal

Grains

  1. White rice (I like jasmine)
  2. Brown rice

Pastas/Noodles

  1. Penne pasta (normal or whole wheat)

  3. Nutritional yeast flakes (also known as savoury yeast flakes)
  4. Good quality curry paste

  8. Dried shiitake mushrooms
  9. Wakame

  13. Cacao powder (cocoa is also fine)
