We are soooo close to summer in my part of the world, and as the weather heats up my cravings for smoothie bowls become INTENSE.
All I want is fruit of every kind blended up with my favourite plant based milk of the moment (it’s forever changing), plus every topping under the sun. Speaking of toppings, my Easy Homemade Granola is always a good choice!
Matcha-flavoured desserts, pancakes and drinks are EVERYWHERE I turn now. I never tried it growing up, but since indulging in matcha waffles a year ago, I fell hard and fast. It’s a funny sort of taste, and probably not one I would have enjoyed pre-vegan days, but I love love love it. That’s the beautiful thing about my lifestyle now — veganism has opened my mind (and taste buds) to so many wonderful flavours, and truly expanded my idea of what makes good food.
With that in mind, I picked up some Matcha powder from Ceres Organics this week and decided to put some frozen bananas in my fridge to use to create the yummiest Matcha Smoothie Bowl. To make this smoothie bowl extra creamy, I added some avocado (love those good fats). By the way, avo and matcha are two flavours that should get married and make babies.
Now that I’ve ventured into the world of matcha and discovered some great flavour pairings, don’t be surprised if you see matcha everything on this blog. I’m thinking pancakes, mousse cakes, slices and maybe even some savoury options. In the meantime, whip up this delightful bowl and enjoy!

Matcha Smoothie Bowl (makes 2)
- 4 frozen bananas
- 1 avocado
- 2 cups of coconut milk
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons of matcha powder
- Add all ingredients into a high powered blender, nutri bullet or food processor. Process until ingredients are fully combined.
- Pour into two bowls and top with granola and fresh fruit.
